The X-Factor UK live shows kicked off tonight and one of the features was the renaming of one of the groups from GMD3 to District3.

The producers of the show had negative thoughts about the group’s original name and suggested putting it to the viewers for suggestions for a new name, which resulted in thousands of ideas. District3 is the name the group chose.

This is a classic example of utilising the social environment to crowdsource and empower potential fans to co-create the brand of the group.
